With delegates from big hitters like Autoliv, Husqvarna, Mölnlycke Healthcare and Meyer Weft, the air at TECHNIAs PLM Innovation Forum was buzzing with smart ideas… and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone that didn’t leave the forum feeling excited and inspired for what the next year has to bring. For those of you who couldn’t be there, here are our top three takeaways from the event:

1. Digital Transformation is the Name of the Game

If it can be digital, make it digital. That was the overriding message of this year’s forum. The smartest companies are taking creative approaches to managing their product lifecycle, such as modeling their parts supply chains and using virtual simulations rather than physical prototyping to streamline the process, cut costs and boost efficiency at every step. “Stories we heard these two days have shown how digital transformation is crucial for our customers. Digitalization is changing the world and the rules of the game. It is essential to follow suit and be part of the opportunities,” sums up Jonas Gejer, CEO of TECHNIA.

2. Traditional Businesses Must Adapt or Die

In today’s extremely competitive world, business doesn’t just have to change – they have to change incredibly rapidly. Implementing processes that help them spot and solve potential problems ahead of time and getting to the finish line faster than the competition. As Stockholm School of Economics’ Dr. Claire Ingram Bogusz, who researches organization transformation and digital entrepreneurship, explained: “Old established companies are right to be afraid. The pace is very, very fast. But they have time and resources and can execute digital transformations too.” In other words, you absolutely can’t afford to rest on your laurels. At the same time, don’t fear the future! Instead, the businesses that survive and thrive are the ones that choose to embrace the incredible opportunities that top tech is bringing their way.

Mobile Phone

3. PLM is going Mobile

Our smartphones have become an extension of our brains and most of us expect to be able to work from anywhere. We answer emails, edit documents, join conference calls… the works. It was only a matter of time before PLM technology DUMMY caught up. This year’s forum saw a fascinating debate about precisely which tasks and processes are best opened up to mobile, but one thing is clear: leading companies now recognize the value of accessing and managing their product development projects from any device. It presents exciting opportunities for improved collaboration, productive, location-independent working and swift, informed decision-making that will underpin business growth in the coming years.

Final Thoughts

Dragging your business kicking and screaming into the highly competitive world of today might sound terrifying… but it really doesn’t have to be. With the right technology, you can take your industry by storm while rolling out processes and strategies that streamline your workflow, improve collaboration, strip out time-wasting tasks, save you money and allow your awesome team to shine.
